この度、9月29日(金)~ 10月1日(日)の3日間にわたって、まちなか展覧会「エア/プー ル」を、東急目黒線沿線西小山駅周辺エリアの3つの会場にて開催いたします。
グローバリゼーションと資本主義が席巻する現代の社会において、歴史的文脈を踏まえた美術の展覧会や芸術祭が、国内外で多数開催されています。それらの展覧会や芸術祭を通じて、もともとは多種多様であったはずの個々のアート作品が、一定のコンテクスト（文脈）に従って、再構築され、意味づけられていくことも無視できない現象であると言えるでしょう。そうした無数のコンテクストにまつわる情報の氾濫によって、人間社会が本来的に持っていた存在論的統合性が分断されていくことを意味しているのかもしれません。まちなか展覧会「エア/プール」は、一元的で単一の視点から語られる「大きな物語」としての歴史の文脈に吸い込まれていく「情報」としての作品の寄せ集めではなく、より私的な視点や個別のストーリーを持って対話するアーティストたちとキュレーター、そして来場者の方々とのコラボレーションによって成立します。
ランドマークのような名所スポットやブランドショップが立ち並ぶエリアで開催するのではありません。匿名性が高い現代都市の一角として、西小山エリアの駅前から商店街にわたり、公園などを含めて会場となります。日々の営みを行う商業、あるいはそれらにかかわる施設やモノが、それぞれいかなる関係にあるのかという問題提起に挑むとともに、日常空間が持つある種の「虚構性」と「物語性」に着目し、土地と社会的行為との関係、主体と他者との関係について問いかけます。
「エア/プール」は、啓蒙的な目的やスペクタクルの社会に求められがちなエンターテーメント性から、距離を置きつつ、小規模でありながら、町のさまざまなスペースを巻き込み、密度の高い展覧会を目指します。来場者の方々には、「鑑賞マップ」に自分自身の動線と感想を付け足してもらい、「この展覧会の作品」として評価したものを撮影し、本展ウェブサイトに写真を投稿していただくことで展覧会の進行に関わることができます。一方的に与えられた空間を楽しむのではなく、空間と作品のもたらす関係性、そしてその関係性における価値を発見し、町のエコロジーに対する分析と再構築に参加してもらいます。こうした行為を通じて、会期中のみならず、その後の地域におけるさまざまな立場の人々の間の対話の存続にもつながるよう願っています。

Street Art Exhibition AIR / POOL: To Stir Up the City, curated by Lily Shu, will be organized at various venues around Nishi-koyama Station on Tokyu Meguro Line for three days from Fri. 29th Sep until Sun. 1st Oct.
SHU has been creating photographic works from her own unique perspective in line of studies of existentialism and phenomenology, and with her interest in issues of subjective and private beings and social construction. Setting the town of Nishi-koyama as a stage for her Project, where she has lived for about two years now, which attempts to reflect on how we can allow our personal perspectives to permeate into public space. She aims for a realization of an exhibition, which is not constituted with a collection of works as “information” that are deemed to be swallowed into a
one-dimentional and single-visioned context of the “History as the Grand Narrative”, but will be realized through collaborations among artists, curators and visitors of the exhibition, who will together set up “conversations”, bringing in their own more personal and private viewpoints and individual stories.
Maps will be handed off to visitors at Reception Desk in Nishi-koyama Ekimae Hiroba (Nishi-koyama Station Square), which can be found just in front of the Station’s Exit. The curator hopes that each visitor to draw records of their movements and thoughts while actually walking and searching for art works on his/her own. Furthermore, SHU wishes that visitors will take pictures of what they evaluated as “art works of this exhibition” and post the images to the Exhibition’s special website. Through participating in a process of being engaged with this exhibition, the curator anticipates situations, where “new routes” will be opened up inside consciousness of participatory people, which will, in turn, re-draw representations of the town and the Exhibition.
